New Years Day (The 'Seventies)

Subject

Wharton, Edith

Description

This is the fourth of four novellas in the series Old New York. Edward C. Caswell illustrated the novel. The dusk jacket has a flower pattern that frames an image of a busy New York intersection. The dusk jacket has slight tears along the corners and spine, showing a blue cover underneath. The dusk jacket front flap has a water mark in the top left corner. The illustration shows two women talking as they walk on a sidewalk in New York. There is a correction on page 89. The back endpaper shows another angle of the New York street.

This story is about an alleged affair between a married woman and unmarried man. The storytelling is intermixed with social commentary on a variety of topics, like class, sexism, art, and changing history.
