The front cover is in good condition, but there is visible wear. Fully bound in velvet cloth. There is visible wear to the book’s cloth binding, this could be due to water damage. Wood pulp pages showing some evidence of deterioration, with the binding also loose and suffering from water damage. Ramsdan notes that Wharton mentions reading Santayana's Character and Opinion in the United States in a letter to Bernard Berenson dated 19 December 1920. See Ramsden, p. 109; Letters, p. 433-4.
