Vazeh, Mirza Shafi ("Mirza-Schaffy")
Die Lieder des Mirza-Schaffy

Dublin Core

Title

Vazeh, Mirza Shafi ("Mirza-Schaffy")
Die Lieder des Mirza-Schaffy

Subject

Mirza Shafi Vazeh

Description

With a prologue by Friederich Bodenstedt. Vazeh was an Azerbaijani poet of the early 19th century who was inspired by older, classical traditions in Persian poetry. He did not write his poems down, though, leaving them to be transcribed by others. One transcriber was the German author Friedrich von Bodensted, who published Die Lieder in 1851. Following Vazeh's death in 1852, Bodenstedt claimed that the poems were his own and that he had published them under a Persian pseudonyn, for the sake of adding intrigue. Most historians and critics, though, believe that they are the work of Vazeh, though Bodenstedt made significant alterations to them in translating them.
